1. BACKGROUND
Ipas Mozambique is a non-governmental, non-profit organization operating in Mozambique since 2018, with headquarters in Maputo and provincial offices in Nampula and Zambézia. In partnership with the Ministry of Health, Ipas Mozambique promotes, improves and provides Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services, Comprehensive Assistance to Safe Abortion, Contraception and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) services. Ipas creates the conditions for the provision of quality sexual and reproductive health services by improving infrastructure, providing equipment and empowering health providers and other stakeholders.
As Ipas and our partners help improve Mozambique’s abortion ecosystem[1] and advance alliances with other human rights movements, we have seen and expect increased attacks on our work. These attacks are a direct threat to Mozambique’s progress on human rights and democracy, and a can only be successfully overcome by a robust civil society.[2] We know that movements are not created from the top down and we believe our work must be locally led, based upon evidence, and involve the end users of safe abortion care, who are primarily women and girls. This movement must incorporate the gamut of SRHR, including abortion, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression, to be truly effective in shifting norms and reducing stigma on SRH. National and local civil society groups are best positioned to understand the context and reach key groups in Mozambique with relevant information and services, including women and girls, men and boys, and marginalized groups such as IDPs, people with disabilities, LGBTI+ people, and rural women. CSOs, including organizations representing feminist activists, women’s cooperatives/groups, youth, IDPs, disabled people’s organizations (DPOs), sex workers, and LGBTI+ people are also well positioned to occupy spaces that are normally dominated by sexist, opposition, and conservative groups, particularly in the definition of public policies. Ipas has a long history of collaborating with CSOs for improvements under all eight areas of our abortion ecosystem framework.
Ipas Mozambique is looking to immediately hire a Videographer/producer to record and produce a video documenting Ipas Mozambique’s work to build a local sustainable sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) movement and highlighting progress and results in the implementation of current and previous projects.
