Sub granting Kampala

Ipas Hewlett program aims to create supportive environments across East Africa where every woman and girl, particularly those marginalized, can access high-quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, including abortion care, without facing judgment. The purpose of this grant is to build an ecosystem of actors from the grassroots up to the national and regional levels that will serve as a pivotal link to the African narratives and social norms shifting work. By engaging diverse stakeholders, including community leaders, civil society organizations and groups, policymakers, professional groups, young people, and influencers, the project will amplify the impact of narrative change efforts and social norms shifting initiatives. This will be realized through advocacy and awareness campaigns, dispelling misinformation regarding SRH, promoting culturally relevant and positive narratives that challenge detrimental social norms, and endorsing SRH rights. Innovative community engagement models will also be developed to address practical obstacles to SRH service accessibility.

This program aims to:

  1. Develop action from the grassroots to the national level, with stakeholders taking action by advancing rights related to SRHR and influencing related policies.
  2. Increase public awareness and support for progressive SRHR policies through culturally resonant African narratives.
  3. Demonstrate pathways for scaling innovative solutions aimed at addressing inequities in access to contraception and abortion care.
  4. Facilitate the meaningful inclusion of safe abortion content and commitments into the agendas of diverse civil society groups, leading to expanded legal or decriminalized access to safe abortion in East Africa.

Ipas Africa Alliance therefore invites grassroot organizations with innovative ideas and approaches that will amplify the impact of narrative change efforts and social norms shifting in Uganda.
