Background:
Post-MA Contraception (PMAC) is a research and implementation project that seeks to develop scalable, evidence-based interventions to increase uptake and continuation rates of contraception for women and adolescent girls who self-manage their abortions with medical abortion (MA) pills that have been obtained from a pharmacy. The project is implemented in Nakuru County, where Ipas works with Nakuru County Department of Health, Population Council, Ask NIVI, IHI and a Technical Advisory Group.
The PMAC project was implemented to strengthen pharmacy service delivery through structured supervision, documentation, and pharmacists’ capacity building. During the project implementation period, data collection and reporting were routinely conducted during monthly technical support visits and MA and PMAC data extracted from pharmacy registers. As the projects comes to an end , the project team is conducting data triangulation and digitization of service delivery data. This involves creating a digital version of the PMAC service delivery register and accurately capturing program data for the adaptive learning and intervention implementation phases. The process will digitize the service delivery data to create a repository of MA and PMAC data to inform ongoing advocacy and decision making on pharmacy-based investment priorities.
