Job title: Consultant

Location: Arua, Gulu, Mbale, Tororo, Busia, Iganga,Jinja, kampala and Wakiso Districts of Uganda.

     I.         Introduction/Background

Ipas works globally to improve access to safe abortion and contraception so that every woman and girl can determine her future. Across Uganda, we work with partners to make safe abortion and contraception widely available, to connect women and girls with vital information so they can access safe services, and advocate for safe, legal abortion. We believe in a world where all people have the right and ability to determine their sexuality and reproductive health.

Ipas Africa Alliance Uganda office is implementing the Increase Access To Sexual and Reproductive health services (ACTUATE) corsotium project funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy whose objective is to increase the uptake of SRH commodities and Services through private and public sector channels.  Project activities are designed to achieve two objectives focused on health service delivery, health system strengthening, and community engagement in the areas of post abortion care and family planning. Ipas Uganda is implementing the project in 12 districts across the country, focusing on 120 health facilities. The project activities dwell on health system strengthening in those public health facilities ranging from capacity building of service providers in PAC/Post Abortion family planning, supplies and thus enhancing quality service delivery in the areas of PAC/Post abortion family planning

The project’s effectiveness is centered around three objectives:

  1. To Increase equitable access to SRH commodities and services through the private and public sector.
  2. To increase collaboration between Public and private Sector.
  3. To increase empowerment of women and girls in the product and service delivery supply chain.

 

 

 

To better understand the pespertives of the quality of Post abortion/ post abortion family planning services provided in the the Ipas supported health facilities,A baseline Client Exit Interview will be conducted in 12 of the supported health facilities in Nine districts to asses the quality gapas that exist in the provision of Post Abortion care/ post abortion family planning which will form a baseline for quality improvement projects for PAC/PA family planning services in the supported health facilities.

 

This study will therefore assess clients’ satisfaction levels on the quality of PAC/Post Abortion Family planning  services provided at the Ipas ACTUATE  implementing sites. In addition, the study will evaluate the alignment of Ipas-supported public facilities services with the project’s stated objectives.

Ipas is seeking, therefore, Research Assistants to support our work to understand the perspectives of the clients on the post-abortion care services provided at our intervention sites.

   II.         Period of Performance:

The assignment will be for a period of 10 days from the date of signing of the contract between Ipas Africa Alliance, Uganda office, and the Service Provider during which data collection has to be conducted in the research sites. All work must be completed with the agreed upon 10 working days within the contract.

 III.         Place of Performance:

Kulva Hospital,Bondo Health Centre, Awach Health Centre, Namatala Health Centre, Tororo Hospital, Petta Health Centre, Busia Health Centre, Buhehe Health Centre, Iganga Municipal Health Centre, Bugembe Health Centre, Kitebi Health Centre and Wakiso Health Centre.

 

 IV.         Scope of Work:

Research Assistants

  • Administering data collection tools to the sampled study participants,
  • Updating daily summaries and field interview notes
  • Participating in the pilot and testing of the data collection tools

Deliverables

Research Assistant

  • Administer interviews to all the study participants allocated to them.
  • Data cleaning of the collected information before submission
  • Complete submissions of the data collected.
  • Submit Soft or any hard copy of information collected to Ipas staff

Technical Requirements:

Research Assistant:

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection, especially in health-related projects for multi-cultural organizations.
  • Demonstrated Experience in Rapport Harvesting and conducting one on one interviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in online/mobile data collection Techniques.
  • Relevant/related professional experience and related degree.
  • Strong experience in people-centered and rights-based programming at the policy, strategy as well as implementation level
  • Strong experience in participatory and inclusive assessment/research methodologies and user- centered approaches
  • Experience working with organizations that are or are working towards non-hierarchical, shared leadership, or other related practices
  • Possession of a functional Smartphone is desirable

 

    V.         Reporting:

  • The Research Assistants will be reporting to the Health Systems& M&E Advisor based in Uganda who will update the PMERL Advisor, Ipas. The Research Assistants will report on a daily basis on the number of interviews done.
