Ipas is a nonprofit organization that works with local, national and global partners, to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights, with a focus on ensuring that high-quality safe abortion and contraceptive information and services are available, accessible and acceptable to women and girls.

Position Purpose

Work with the Policy & Business Development Advisor to develop and implement a communication and brand management strategy that supports Ipas’s aim to advance and advocate for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). This role requires creativity, leadership, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to effectively drive Ipas’ mission and promote the “Makoki Ya Mwasi” brand.

Summary of Responsibilities

Digital Content Development and Management

  • Create and manage a publishing calendar for all Ipas DRC social media accounts and website- identify content type and volume for all platforms based on best practices
  • Develop and post regular content for social media and the Ipas DRC website focused on SRHR that is accurate, current, consistent, and reflective of Ipas’ brand messaging and digital content strategy. Content may include social media posts, infographics, newsletters, video scripts, blog posts, and all other internal and external-facing communications materials, as well as special projects.
  • Serve as the focal point between Ipas DRC and the web designer
  • Track and analyze the success of digital communications and provide regular status reports on digital engagement
  • Drive organic social media engagement by generating and executing a social media strategy across various platforms
  • Perform all other tasks related to the communication, visibility, archiving, and promotion of the “Makoki Ya Mwasi” brand

Writing/Editing 

  • Collaborate with Ipas staff and partners to document success stories and lessons learned that will be used to write and publish web stories and articles (French and English) on the Ipas Global and Makoki Ya Mwasi Website
  • Develop and draft monthly newsletters to share program highlights, recent activities, and valuable information with Ipas network, partners, and donors
  • Conduct interviews and collaborate with the communications team to coordinate video recording and multimedia productions
  • Contribute to the design, filming, and broadcasting of the special program “Makoki Ya Mwasi” Writing/Editing

Position Requirements

  • A deep commitment and/or interest in learning about sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially safe abortion, contraception access, gender-based violence prevention and survivor support, youth, and people with disability inclusion.
  • Experience working with innovative OTS software as part of developing infographics, reports, and videos (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Excellent website and social media content development skills; familiarity with WordPress is a plus
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and manage a variety of tasks with multiple deadlines
  • Spoken and written English

Functional skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent English and French writing, editing and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Canva, social analytical tools
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, and very high attention to detail
  • Ability to work well with a wide variety of people in a fast-paced environment within a complex organization, in person and virtually
  • Ability to work independently, with a strong ethic of accountability.
  • Ability to plan, balance and cope with competing priorities.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public health, international development, social sciences, business administration, or related area

Experience

  • Experience of developing, writing, and designing social medias materials and web stories
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit clear, engaging and grammatically correct content for diverse audiences
  • Experience and knowledge of the principles and techniques of mass communication, social media, and digital communication methods, including a comprehensive understanding of how to communicate information to diverse multilingual communities
  • Practical knowledge and proven experience managing multiple social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube)
  • Experience in developing institutional experience and provide advice to the leadership including remark
  • Design experience, including use of Adobe Suite and Canva.
  • Experience working in sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equity, human rights, and/or humanitarian sectors, preferably at a global health or human rights NGO.

Preferred qualifications & skills

  • Fluent French and English language skills
  • Prefer previous knowledge and experience of health communication and/or social media principles.
  • Experience managing multiple social media and communication channels
  • Understanding of Ipas’s programs and standards
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive, Teams).
